Abstract

This study analyzed the role of Smart Tourism Information Systems (STIS) in promoting sustainable tourism management among selected hotels in Ilorin-West LGA of Kwara State. Smart Tourism Information Systems incorporates digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing to improve efficiency, enhance guest satisfaction, and support environmental conservation. Using a structured questionnaire administered to 80 respondents across five hotels, the study employed descriptive statistics to evaluate STIS adoption, challenges, and strategies. Findings revealed that STIS positively influence operational efficiency and sustainability, but adoption is hindered by high implementation costs, limited technical skills, and poor internet infrastructure. The study recommends staff training, government incentives, stakeholder collaboration, and investment in affordable, scalable technologies to enhance smart tourism integration. Overall, the research concludes that embracing STIS can significantly contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable tourism development.
